On Sunday: We will celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception. It is very unusual for this celebration to take precedence over an Advent Sunday. However, the Spanish Conference of Bishops asked Rome for special permission to maintain the celebration on Sunday because of the historical importance of the Spanish church’s role in defending the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception.
On Sunday: : Food collection for the struggling families of Our Lady of Mercy. Please bring up at offertory time. (even if I forget to mention it!) 🙂
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY:
Penance Service on Tuesday December 17 at 6:00 PM. There will be a simple service in Spanish that begins at 6:00 PM and then a time for individual confessions. There will be a English-speaking priests available to hear your confession in English.
December 24th, Christmas High Mass! This is our main event:
We start at 5:30 PM with Christmas Carols lead by the combined choirs of Our Lady of Mercy and San Dámaso.
The bilingual Christmas Mass begins at 6:30 PM and lasts one hour.
The children will do a dramatic presentation of the Gospel (The Annual Children’s Christmas Pageant).
On December 25th, we celebrate a calmer more meditative Mass at 11:00 AM, all in English.
Christmas lottery.
Did you know that the Christmas lottery in Spain is a very popular tradition? Almost every Spaniard purchases tickets hoping to win the “Gordo”. When you purchase a 5 Euro participation, you dedicate 4 Euros to the ticket and one Euro to Cáritas. Please remember that Caritas San Dámaso also helps the Good Neighbour Fund of OLM. This is a great act of charity that you can do for Advent and you also have a chace (albeit small) to win big. Please see Fr. Ron after Mass or Fr. Sebastian to purchase your tickets.
CCD NEWS; NO CCD the following few Sundays but there is practice for the Christmas Pageant. Also, mark your calendars for the opportunity to meet the catechists.
