If you are a committed Catholic from 14-17 years old, you are a good candidate for a parish youth group. At Our Lady of Mercy, we find that maintaining an active ongoing youth group to be especially challenging due to the following reasons:

  • The youth come from many different secondary schools and so their weekday schedules often conflict. Scheduling a midweek time to get together is problematic..
  • The leader of a youth group must be a special kind of person. They must be young enough to relate well to the teenagers. They must be old enough to be mature and wise in their dealings with the youth. And they must be firmly rooted in their Catholic faith. On top of all that, they must make the group interesting or the youth will go elsewhere. We have found that if our Young Adult Group is working well, we can usually find some leaders in their ranks.
  • There is no space at OLM on Sunday. We already use up 10 classrooms for the CCD and the bible study. The choir is also looking for a place to meet.

At the present time, we do not have a program for the youth. The first step would be to find someone who has the time to lead a Sunday experience, maybe even meeting at the nearby McDonalds. Are you interested?

If so, please contact Fr. Ron at olm@ourladyofmercy.info
