CCD 2009 - 2010 Fact Sheet

To date, we have over 120 children registered in our programme, and we give classes from age 6 (Grade 1) to age 16 (Confirmation).

The texts we use are all approved and recognized by the Catholic Church: our current series of texts are "Call to Faith" (through Grade 6), "Celebrating our Faith" - Eucharist and Reconciliation (for First Holy Communion), "Jesus in the New Testament" (Grade 7), "Discipleship" (Grade 8), “Morality” (Grade 9), and "Prayer" and "Sealed With the Spirit" (Confirmation). They are approved by the US Catholic Conference of Bishops and the Archdiocese of Madrid, and are in conformity with the Catholic Catechism.

The preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion starts in Grade 1 for a period of 3 years. Our programme is a continuous one, however, and the specific preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is also 3 years, beginning in Grade 8. First Holy Communion is celebrated every year in early June, and Confirmation is also celebrated annually, although the date depends on when the Bishop can visit our Parish.

We believe strongly in the children taking an active part in Parish life as they are our future. Several projects, such as the Christmas Giving Tree, a bake sale and a book sale are among the annual projects led by previous students of the programme. On the first Sunday of each month, we have a Children's Mass, which is organized by one of the classes and their teacher together with the Choir Director. The children handle the readings, the prayer intentions, the music, the Offertory, etc. At our Christmas Eve Mass, the children take part in a pageant, which is a simple, but meaningful affair re-enacting the Gospel of the birth of Jesus. In May, the younger children pay a special homage to Our Lady.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, we would be happy to discuss them with you. If you would like to volunteer to teach or assist, please contact us at the e-mail listed below.
